Visual Effects

Before you check this section out, understand that Rob’s work in film is more on the editing and cinematography spectrum. As such, when you see the phrase, visual effects, know that this does not mean Michael Bay level effects. Rob does color grading or tweaks effects to create aging or and some multi-layered composites.

Color Grading Reel (Single Shot)

Using a single shot (courtesy of a fellow video guru); Rob put together a color grading reel to show what a little (and a lot) of difference can be made to one scene in real time.

___

Lightsaber/Force Lightning Effects Testing

Using old footage of Rob with a closet dowel rod, Rob tested out basic rotoscoping to create realistic lightsabers and a burst of force lightning. The footage was degraded, so he added an overlay effect to hide the difference between terrible footage and 1080p rotoscoping effects (hence the cheesy camera effect). Also, sound effects.

___

Hologram Compositing Effect Testing

Using a combination of green screen footage, color correction and two custom Motion 5 effects masked onto the original footage, Rob created a realistic hologram effect as seen in films like Star Wars. He also emulated the audio effect using Logic Pro and Adobe Audition.

___

Degraded VHS Footage

Rob custom designed two distinct effects within Motion 5 to be used specifically for a short film concept being written. This test serves to show that the effect can be achieved which will move the short film into pre-production. This is a side by side example using the same footage, before and after.
